Mustaqbal Disability

  • Mobilization and awareness of Persons with Disabilities and parents participate and involve the learning and education of learners with disabilities across the communities
  • Established Mustaqbal Integrated School in Baidoa with the current enrollment of 1237 learners (525 girls) of whom 415(239 girls) are learners with different disabilities. This was supported by several education actors e.g. FCA and UNHCR
  • Participated, consulted and influenced the development of special educational needs/Inclusive education policy by the MoE at federal and state levels
  • Conducted enrollment campaigns with the support of communities elders and community education to enroll more children with disabilities into the school
  • Distributed learning materials and uniforms to those learners from poor background families
  • Networking and collaboration with state and non- state actors has enhanced the inclusion and participation of persons with disabilities
  • With the support of ADRA, the school facilities has been improved, teachers trained on inclusive education while parents and communities actively participate in the education
  • As a result of teacher training on basic braille, the school managed to enroll a significant number of learners with visual impairments
  • Participated in radio talk shows to raise public awareness regarding disability issues and access to education for learners with disabilities
  • MDA has also organized seasonal and special porgrams i.e. the meals during Ramadan to families of person with disabilities.
  • With the support of our partner (ADRA), MDA has been using Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) approach to assist PwDs and older person through community outreach awareness and rehabilitation initiatives.
